A sharp fade holds for three weeks, so you go back twelve to fifteen times a year. The vocabulary that prevents misunderstandings, the hygiene checks, and the prices listed in Racine.
A sharp fade holds for three weeks, a month at best. It is the only hairdressing service that anyone buys that often, and that is why the choice of barber matters more than the choice of salon: you are going to go back twelve to fifteen times a year.
The vocabulary Casablanca barbers use mixes French, Arabic and English, and misunderstandings almost always come from that. Three reference points:
A photo settles in ten seconds what a description will not settle in five minutes. Bring two: the cut you want, and a cut you do not want.
Trimming and shaving are not the same service. A trim shapes the beard with clippers and scissors and draws the cheek line and the neck line — which sits roughly above the Adam's apple, not under the chin. A traditional cut-throat shave, preceded by a hot towel, is both more precise and harsher on the skin.
On a curly beard, shaving too close encourages ingrown hairs. What helps: shaving with the grain rather than against it, not stretching the skin, exfoliating once or twice a week, and settling for a very short beard rather than a clean shave. If spots appear every time after a shave, that is something to show a doctor, not something to fix with a different aftershave.
A barber who does not open a fresh blade in front of you is a barber you walk out on. This is not a question of comfort.
Casablanca barbers publish their prices more readily than women's salons do, which makes comparison possible. Recorded in October 2026 on the price list of one establishment in Racine:
The same establishment also sells facials from 200 to 900 DH and a hammam at 250 DH: the line between barber and beauty institute has largely been rubbed out in the Anfa and Racine districts.
Barbershops have multiplied in Maârif, Racine, Aïn Diab, the Triangle d'Or and Bouskoura, with names that look after the premises as much as the haircut — and that charge accordingly. Oulfa, Hay Hassani and Lissasfa keep neighbourhood barbers at noticeably lower rates, and some of them come to the house, which settles the matter for children and for elderly people.
A strong fade needs a visit every two to three weeks to stay sharp; a longer cut, worn blended, holds for six to eight weeks. If you do not want to go every fortnight, say so to the barber: there are cuts designed to grow out cleanly, and that is a request a good professional knows how to handle.
A first haircut goes better in the morning, in a salon that is used to it, and if you sit down in the chair yourself first. Several Casablanca salons have a children's service of their own, billed separately — 100 DH at the establishment quoted above. Ask for quiet clippers if the noise is the problem.
One request, and the relevant professionals get back to you.
